Waltraud has been an artist as long she can remember.
Having grown up in country Austria she has a strong sense for improvising and seeing materials out of context.
She lets the fabric show her what it is willing to do and she trusts her hands and heart in the exploration of her hats, weaving and canvases. Her skill is firmly grounded in traditional millinery techniques which she breaks to achieve the out comes which seam important to her at the time. Hat making for Waltraud is an expression of her heart and she deeply believes that hats are the art of the HeArT. Waltraud has found that her arts practice has helped her find a way through the adversities of her own life . She conquered depression , eating disorder and many loses and therefore believes deeply that creative expression contains healing qualities and can be a way for many people to engage with feelings which are sometimes to painful to speak about . There is not much Waltraud gets shocked about . We are all human she says and that means we are flawed and that makes us unique as well.
